James Augustine Aloysius Joyce (1882 – 1941) is one of Ireland’s most influential and celebrated writers. He was a novelist, short story writer, poet, teacher and literary critic. His most famous work is Ulysses (1922) which follows the movements of Leopold Bloom through a single day on June 16th, 1904. Ulysses is based on Homer’s The Odyssey. He contributed to the modernist avant-garde and is regarded as one of the most influential and important authors of the 20th century.
