Aims

  • This module is designed to be an introduction to the fundamental principles of the physical world.
  • The graduate will acquire a fundamental understanding of the physical world and identify the applications of Physics in everyday life and in industrial processes.

  • Light and Sound
  • Electromagnetism
  • Atomic physics (incl Bohr Atom)

To understand and apply  Definitions, Laws, Facts and Formulae important in Physics with reference to:

  • Mechanics and Heat
  • Light and Sound
  • Electromagnetism
  • Atomic physics (incl Bohr Atom)

Measure, investigate or determine different physical quantities on mandatory experiments focusing on methods, maths and accuracy with reference to:

  • Mechanics and Heat
  • Light and Sound
  • Electromagnetism
  • Atomic physics (incl Bohr Atom)

Solve simple physical model applied to a variety of real life situations.

This award will be divided into 5 units covering the following key areas:

  • Unit 1 Mechanics and Heat
  • Unit 2 Light and Sound
  • Unit 3 Electromagnetism
  • Unit 4 Atomic Physics
  • Unit 5 Health and Safety
