Description

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to prepare and maintain an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) environment that supports the learning and holistic development of children.

At the end of the module learners will be able to:

  • Understand the rationale and philosophy for introducing early learning
  • Understand the materials and developmental exercises in the childcare setting
  • Appreciate the steps that must be taken in the preparation of the childcare setting to facilitate learning
  • Acquire the skills necessary to guide the child whilst working with learning materials
  • Develop an understanding of the criteria by which self-teaching materials are evaluated
  • Understand the difference between sensorial impressions and sensorial education
  • Appreciate the interdependence of planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes
  • Plan for the continuity of learning experiences i.e. the child in the 3-6 years age range in an ECCE setting
  • Develop skills that will help to appraise ones-self and one's colleagues in meeting the needs of children in a childcare setting
