Description

This award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill, and competence in the theory and practice underpinning the education and care of those who present with special educational needs to enable the learner to assist in the provision of this education and care.

At the end of the module learners will be able to:

  • Explore the skills and duties required to work as an effective Special Needs Assistant
  • Manage activities, in an educational setting, that are meaningful to the needs of the individual
  • Evaluate the legislation, guidelines, and structures for people with special educational needs
  • Assess the various educational options available in Ireland for people with special educational needs
  • Explore the differences between integration and inclusion
  • Organise learning opportunities in order to promote independence and responsibility
  • Provide the skills to support the teacher in implementing the national curriculum for the individual with special needs
  • Evaluate personal attitudes, values, beliefs, and assumptions in relation to working with individuals with special needs
