The Pre-Nursing Studies QQI Level 5 Major Award is designed to enhance learners understanding and awareness of the roles and responsibilities carried out by a professional nurse. It is a preparatory study course that provides you with a progression route for further training and enables you to apply through the CAO and UCAS for degree programmes in BSc General Nursing, Maternity Nurse, Mental Health, Intellectual Disability, Children’s & General Nursing or Social Care in Ireland and Britain.
The course introduces students to common subjects studied in the first year of the BSc Nursing Degree Programme. It also provides you with the qualification to work as a Qualified Healthcare Assistant.
A Nursing Studies Qualification that is designed to provide a solid foundation in the theory and practice of Nursing and Healthcare for those who intend to enter the nursing, paramedical or community care service.
The primary focus of this course is to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence and the opportunity to progress to Nursing Degree Programmes to become a Qualified Nurse or Social Care Worker.
A Learner can also become a Qualified Healthcare Assistant on completion of this course and work in a variety of Healthcare settings.

Junior / Leaving Certificate standard or appropriate QQI/FET Qualification or equivalent
Mature Applicants with relevant life and work experience
English Language Proficiency Test where deemed appropriate or an IELTS score of 5.0
Grade O6 in ordinary level Maths is mandatory for entry to Nursing Degree programmes in Ireland and Grade O5 in Ordinary level Maths for entry to UK Degree programmes.
