Programme Learning Outcomes 

 

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: 

 

  • Complete basic skills in relation to promoting good infection control practices 

  • Understand how infections develop, the signs and symptoms of infection and ways to prevent infection spreading. 
     

  • Create an awareness of the importance of their role in infection control management. 

  • Analyse the factors that increase the susceptibility of people to develop infections 

  • Gain a basic understanding of the growth of microorganisms and factors that influence the growth 

  • Acquire a better understanding of the chain of infection and ways to break the chain and prevent infection 

 

Module Units  

At the end of the course you will have an understanding and awareness on how to prevent and control infection, applying best practice. 

 

Unit 1: Basic Microbiology 

Unit 2: Principles of Infection Control 

Unit 3: Hospital acquired infections  

Unit 4: Health Management

Entry Requirements 

This course is suitable for persons working in an environment where there is a significant risk of infection transferring: Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Childcare Personnel or any areas of work that presents a risk.
