Since its inception in 1991, Linux has grown to become a force in computing, powering everything from the New York Stock Exchange to mobile phones to supercomputers to consumer devices.

CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI consists of two exams, LX0-101 and LX0-102. The exams cover system architecture; Linux installation and package management; GNU and Unix commands; devices, Linux filesystems, and the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard. Professionals who pass the exam can work at the Linux command line, perform maintenance tasks, assist users, and install and configure workstations.

Linux is low cost, provides flexibility and is compatible with virtualisation and cloud applications. Linux is becoming a preferred software platform and as more organisations implement Linux, employers will be looking for administrators who have a solid technical, foundational knowledge of Linux systems.

The requirements for entry to CompTIA Linux+ is as follows:

The CompTIA Linux+ exam is a vendor-neutral certification
It is recommended that participants have CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ and at least 12 months of Linux administration experience
Those who have relevant work experience are eligible for this course.
All Applicants must have competence in spoken and written English

The CompTIA Linux+ Course will provide the skills and knowledge and competence to work at the Linux command line and perform easy maintenance tasks including assisting users, adding users to a larger system, executing backup & restore, shutdown & reboot. 

Students will learn how to install and configure a workstation (including X) and connect it to a LAN, or a stand-alone PC via modem to the Internet.

One of the benefits for CompTIA Linux+ is that Students may choose, at the time they take the exams, to have their exam record forwarded to the Linux Professional Institute - to become certified in LPIC-1

Study for the exam at your own pace with online access to interactive training.  This e-learning courses feature audio segments, lesson activities, and access to additional resources to provide an interesting and effective training process.

In order to receive CompTIA Linux+ certification, a candidate must pass two exams. The second exam is CompTIA Linux+ [Powered by LPI] exam number LX0-102). This exam measures the remaining competencies (beyond those in exam number LX0-101) required by a Junior level Linux Administrator.

Students are assessed online for the Linux+ Certification LX0-101 and LX0-102 Examinations.

You can purchase a voucher for your exam or you can pay with a credit card when you register to take the test at one of CompTIA's testing partners. Vouchers are available from the CompTIA Marketplace. 

Local Students may take the CompTIA Linux+ Examination at Dorset College Prometric Testing Centre

On successful completion of the on-line examination students are awarded:

Certification in CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI enables candidates to become certified in LPIC-1 as well, enabling further participation in the LPI program if the candidate chooses.
