ECDL Computer Essentials
This module sets out essential concepts and skills relating to the use of devices, file creation and management, networks and data security.
ECDL Online Essentials
This module sets out essential concepts and skills relating to web browsing, effective information search, online communication and e-mail.
ECDL Word Processing
This Word Processing course provides the basis for the practice-based test in this module. Word Processing requires the learner to demonstrate the ability to use a word processing application to create everyday letters and documents.
The Spreadsheet course provides the basis for the practice-based test in this module. Spreadsheets requires the learner to understand the concept of spreadsheets and to demonstrate an ability to use a spreadsheet to produce accurate work.
Using Database requires the learner to understand the concept of a database and demonstrate competence in using this application.
The Presentation course provides the basis for the practice-based test in this module. Presentation requires the learner to demonstrate competence in using presentation software.
This module sets out essential concepts and skills relating to the ability to understand the main concepts underlying the secure use of ICT in daily life and to use relevant techniques and applications to maintain a secure network connection, use the Internet safely and securely, and manage data and information appropriately.

All 7 Modules must be completed to gain this valuable qualificaton.
Learners take the examinations online at the end of each module. These exams are taken at our online examination centre in Dorset College. The ECDL Award is available to learners who pass all 7 Modules.

Michael Kearney MSc, HDip, TDip, specialises in computer applications training and course design and holds an MSc in Learning technologies, HDip in eLearning and the EDI/JEB Teaching Diploma in Education Principles Practice and ICT skills.
Michael has gained many years practical experience in both the public and private sectors having worked in the Irish Defence Forces communications school for thirty-one years and many private schools and colleges for twenty-five years; and in the last three years has been a member of the Computing and IT department at Dorset College and has lectured on a part-time basis on both the Bachelor of Business (NFQ Level 6) and ECDL programmes.
Other professional interests include the use of Learning Management System Moodle to enhance learning experiences and developing advanced computer application courses.
