The Bachelor of Business (Honours) in International Business is a one-year Level 8 Qualification awarded by Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI).   

Work experience is a core part of this Level 8 Degree programme and learners will have the opportunity to work in a business setting applying their skills and abilities to support the work of the business.

The Bachelor of Business (Hons) has an international focus where learners will be exposed to key knowledge and skills that will be essential for enterprises that trade internationally.

Graduates will have a range of international business know-how, the cultural awareness capability and the talent to support exporting companies. The programme will provide an integrated view of business situations and will give graduates a deep knowledge and understanding of the theoretical frameworks and practical techniques of business and management. It will enhance self-awareness and transferable, intellectual and employability skills to gain employment at the appropriate level in an organisation.

The requirements for entry are:
A Level 7 business qualification or a Level 8 qualification in any other discipline or equivalent.

Mature learners who are over 23 years of age on January 1st 2018 may be deemed eligible to take the course depending on their prior learning and work experience, general education standard, motivation and commitment to the course.

The following are eligible to apply for courses in 2018/19 academic year (subject to the applicant meeting all residency and nationality/visa requirements and any academic requirements):

Please note that a 10% course fee contribution for Level 7, 8, and 9 courses is applicable for employed participants. This is payable directly to the provider.

The unemployed or formerly self-employed
All courses are open to these category of applicants, with the exception of the two-year part-time ICT conversion courses which are not open to those in receipt of a Jobseekers-related payment.

Why Study the Bachelor of Business in International Business?
The course will provide you with an opportunity to take part in a structured educational programme that can eventually lead to employment or further study.  It will prepare the learner with the knowledge and competencies required to work at entry and middle management ranks of business and management within the various industrial, commercial and service settings. It will enhance your employability skills so that you will be able to develop, lead and sustain organisations on a national and international basis.

What Modules will you Study?
Learners will study seven mandatory modules and 2 elective modules.

How is the Programme Assessed?
A range of assessment methods will be used including individual and group projects, presentations, poster displays, reflective journals, practical exercises and examinations.

Anne O’Mahony
We are delighted to welcome Anne O’Mahony to the lecturing team at Dorset College.

Anne joined the lecturing team in Dorset College specifically to bring industry focus to the Level 8 International Business Degree programme.   She holds a first class Honours Business Degree and this, combined with her management and training and development experience, enables her to bring a wealth of industry knowledge to the business module. Her approach to lectures is to bring ‘real-world’ business experience to the class, encouraging students to combine elements of the additional business-related modules to enhance the overall learning experience.

With over 25 years of experience in multinational business, Anne has worked at senior management level in the following areas, Key Account Management, Sales Management,  Customer Marketing, Marketing and Sponsorships.  Her responsibilities have also included strategy development, project management, team performance management and relationship management.  She has also worked as a consultant for leading FMCG and Digital Media companies.  

Anne lectures in the following modules, Sales Management, Marketing, Business Management and Organisational Behaviour

Matt Murray (MBA. MMII (Grad). MIIA.)
Matt lectures in Doing Business in Global Markets at Dorset College
. He has over 14 years lecturing and teaching experience up to MBA dissertation supervision level. He specialises in the areas of International Business, Strategy and Marketing. He worked in industry for over 30 years, mainly in the Financial Services and Retail sectors. In 2013 he worked as a volunteer for a Non-Governmental Organisation in Tajikistan as a Small Business Development Advisor. He holds an MBA from Henley University in the United Kingdom, an MMII (Grad) from the Marketing Institute of Ireland and an MIIA from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), United Kingdom.

Sharon O’ Brien BA (HONS) MSc Business Management

Sharon gained her BA (Hons) in Maynooth University studying Anthropology, Geography and Classics.  She continued her studies in Maynooth University and completed her Masters in Business Management covering areas such as HR, Innovation, Organisation Behaviour, Finance, Marketing and Strategy. Sharon has many years experience working in the private health sector and is a qualified Dental Nurse having graduated from the Dublin Dental Hospital and Trinity College.

She has worked as a business consultant for a private homecare and dental  company and was involved with staff development.  Sharon’s extensive experience in the private sector has given her an invaluable insight into the mechanisms of successful businesses. She is dedicated to helping students achieve their highest potential and continues her own studies in Education.

Sharon lectures in the Global Business, Strategic Management, International Marketing and Marketing modules in Dorset College and supervised Thesis students.

Rizwan Ahmed holds a Master of Business Administration from University of Karachi, Pakistan; and Bachelor of Business (Hons.) in International Business from Dorset College Dublin; and a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Karachi, Pakistan. He is currently working on a Master's in Business and Management at UCD.

Rizwan has over 22 years of mid-senior level management experience at various large and mid-sized organisations operating globally; and has supervised projects such as cross-border feasibility studies; Privatisation studies; procurement and tendering; Aviation ancillary services; Risk advisory; International Business Operations; and Hospitality services. He has conducted privatisation studies at large state organisations in Pakistan.

Rizwan lectures at our Diploma and Degree programmes in the faculty of Business and Accounting; delivering modules of Business Management, Operations Management; Global Operations and Supply Chain Management; and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.

Elaine Treacy is a lecturer in Human Resources, Communications and  Business Management, with a strong academic and teaching background ( 15 years teaching experience). She is graduated in Business and Marketing, a MA in Intercultural Studies ( DCU) and currently undertaking a professional diploma in Education studies.

In addition she holds industry experience and expertise with international students; fostering, developing and motivating critical skills she offers students the opportunity for personal and professional growth.
