The E-Commerce Strategies and Practices course is for the individual who already understands the foundations of Web technologies and wants to become proficient in e-commerce practices and site design.  To stand out as an increasingly valuable member of a Web or marketing team, you need a working knowledge of e-commerce standards.

Learners will understand how to conduct business online and manage the technical issues associated with constructing an e-commerce Web site. You will learn about the similarities and differences between traditional and electronic commerce, and you will explore e-commerce technologies at various levels of sophistication.

  • E-commerce site development, including ways to conduct business online and manage the technical issues associated with constructing an e-commerce Web site
  • E-commerce technology and security, including e-commerce technologies at various levels of sophistication, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, and practices for securing your online transactions as well as your customers' personal information.
  • E-commerce business, marketing and legal issues, including Web marketing strategies, online product promotion, and legal topics such as taxation and international shipping

The requirements for entry as follows:

Learners taking this course need a basic understanding of Internet functionality and tools, and X/HTML.
No pre-requisite courses or certifications are required prior to taking this course or the corresponding certification exam.  However, the course and exam are challenging and comprehensive
CIW offers the Web Foundations Associate curriculum to provide the base of foundational X/HTML and Internet knowledge necessary for this course. The CIW Foundations courses are not required, but for many candidates they are extremely helpful.

Technical Requirements

The following technical requirements apply to this online course: 128MB of RAM; Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, Minimum screen resolution 800×600, Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher; Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher; Flash 8.0 or higher; 56K minimum connection; broadband (256 kpbs or higher) connection recommended; Javascript, DHTML and cookies enabled; Sound card with speakers or headphones strongly recommended.

CIW E-Commerce Specialist teaches you how to conduct business online and manage the technical issues associated with constructing an e-commerce Web site. You will learn about the similarities and differences between traditional and electronic commerce, and you will explore e-commerce technologies at various levels of sophistication.

Learners with little or no background in Web design should consider starting with the CIW Web Site Foundations course to learn the basics of Web site authoring and development.

Learners can register for CIW exams online with Pearson VUE at the CIW exam registration page at www.pearsonvue.com/CIW.   Follow the instructions on Pearson VUE's site for details on registering for exams. You may also register in person at any authorised Pearson VUE testing centre. Local learners may take the online examination at Dorset College Pearsonvue/ Prometric Testing Centre.
