The Recruitment Process

Conducting a Needs Analysis
Throughout the year all students are interviewed. These interviews are assessed, in conjunction with academic progress, to ascertain the student’s suitability to a particular field, their personal strengths and areas of interest.

Giving Feedback
Feedback is given after each interview to inform you of your academic and professional progress.  In keeping with all effective feedback, it is a two-way process. This allows students to give us feedback regarding their needs and the service that we offer.

Career Preparation
Preparing our students for the workplace is a priority at Dorset College and time and effort invested in planning your entry to the jobs market is very important.  This involves Job Searching CV preparation and training for interviews.

Job Searching
At this stage students need to focus on how to approach a job search.  You are guided on the do’s and don’ts of how to get to the interview stage and beyond.

CV Preparation
We will assist students to compile their CVs’ and cover letters’ tailored to their specific career choices. You are given tips and advice on layout and style as well as being kept up to date with the latest employer expectations and requirements. You will be able to avail of the College facilities for this purpose. Preparation of your CV is a vital part of planning your future career as it is the first impression that you make on a prospective employer.

Interview Preparation
Pre interview preparation includes researching the Company, presenting yourself, your qualifications and skills as the ideal candidate and developing effective communication skills for the interview.

As you are interviewed by us on a number of occasions (full-time students only) you will have already received indirect interview training. In additional to this we offer formal guidance. This takes the form of interviewing you in a simulated environment where you are interviewed for a potential vacancy on offer by our panel.

Post Interview Feedback
An important aspect of this stage is post interview feedback.  This is given to assist you in refining your research skills, presentation and improving your interview skills. This will include areas as fundamental as posture, to the more advanced areas of giving clear and constructive answers and projecting yourself in a positive light.
