Mature Students

Direct Application Procedure
Application for entry is made directly to Dorset College for all courses.

The following process applies:

Mature Applicants
Mature students who are over 21 and do not meet the minimum entry requirements will be considered a mature student. Mature applicants who can demonstrate from their life and/or work experience that they are able to pursue or would benefit from their chosen programme may apply and will be considered for admission to the Day or Evening Programmes.

Mature Applicants applying for full time Day Courses
It is the policy of Dorset College to interview all Full-time Course Applicants http://www.dorset-college.ie/Upcoming_Courses/ The interview provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to the intended course of study, to express your interest in the specialist area and to confirm your capacity for independent and self-motivated study. We will provide you with additional information in relation to the course, career and academic opportunities and the College and assess your suitability for your preferred option.

FETAC
Applicants who hold the FETAC Level 5 or 6 Major Award may apply directly to Dorset College for the HETAC Higher Certificate in Business. A transcript of your FETAC results must be included. This will be followed up with an interview with the Course Director.

Examination Fees
Examination fees are detailed on the schedule and are payable one week prior to taking the examination. Exam Fees for students sitting some validating body examinations are quoted in sterling to allow for currency fluctuations. On-line examinations are payable one week in advance of taking these exams by booking through the College. Our On-line Test Centre is situated at 8 Belvedere Place, Dublin 1. All examination fees are non-refundable and are subject to change in accordance with the validating bodies regulations.

Student Services
A Course Co-ordinator is available to discuss course related issues. Our student recruitment service aims to facilitate the transition from College to the workplace, guiding you on a career path that matches your personal and professional profile. Study facilities are available outside of the class timetable to help students consolidate and refine course knowledge and skills.

Health & Safety
Relevant Health and Safety is covered on all courses.

Equality
The College welcomes students who may require additional support and services to successfully participate and complete their programme of study. Students are encouraged to provide the College with the relevant information at the time of application. This will facilitate the assessment and accommodation of specific learning support needs. Information provided will be treated in strict confidence and without prejudice to the application. Dorset College is committed to ensuring that students with disabilities are facilitated in their learning support needs and makes every effort, where possible to facilitate access and participation.

Learner Protection
Under section 43 of the Qualifications (Education and Training) Act 1999 learner protection arrangements (which provide that a learner may transfer to a similar programme should the provider cease to provide the programme) have been put in place for FETAC courses of three months duration or more with two other FETAC providers.
