This Computer Aided Draugting 2D course provides the opportunity for individuals to enter employment with their new skills at entry level or improve their performance if CAD is part of their role. The course is taken from beginner to intermediate level. The course provides a basis for further study for those who wish to develop their skills in Computer Aided Draughting and achieve professional certification.

 

CAD Computer Aided Draughting Course

The FETAC Computer Aided Draughting course provides the skills, knowledge and confidence to work effectively and provide competent support to managers using this application.  Learners will cover the principles of the 2D drawing environment, in terms of hardware, software and physical surroundings. This CAD course will explore the typical composition of a CAD system and health and safety matters that are associated with safe working practices.  The use of Computer Aided Draughting  (CAD) systems in industry has become an essential part of the modern working environment. 

Pre-requisites

Computer users, European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent

Principal Areas of Study

CAD Software

  • Manipulate design software
  • Use the pull-down menu environment
  • Create a template drawing sheet and demonstrate its application
  • Operate settings to include: limits / grid / snap / ltscale
  • Demonstrate a range of drawing commands

Edit Commands

  • Demonstrate a range of edit commands
  • Change the properties of a drawing eg colour, linetype, scale
  • Demonstrate hatching, hatching irregular boundaries and hatching
  • Edits, input plines and pedit
  • Set up dimensioning and use variables and styles
  • Demonstrate dimensioning
  • Demonstrate a range of edit commands

Application of Blocks

  • Demonstrate the use of blocks in a CAD drawing
  • Create and insert a block, including multiple uses to different scales
  • Write a block to file
  • Insert a block
  • Explode a block
  • Use of Multiple Layers
  • Demonstrate the use of layers in a CAD drawing
  • Create three layers and plot any individual layer
  • Demonstrate different properties on each layer
  • Set layer line types and colour changes
  • Freeze and thaw layers

Assessment

The learners on this course will complete a combination of appropriate assessment procedures to include a a project & assignments.
