Computer Systems Engineer (CompTIA A+ & CISCO)

The Certified Computer Systems Engineer course includes CompTIA A+® & CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA®).  The Computer Systems Engineers course has been designed to prepare you for a challenging career in the computer industry with excellent opportunities to progress academically.

The combined CompTIA A+ and CISCO CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) Course will provide the knowledge and skills required to work as a professional in the computer industry.  Students gain the knowledge to install, configure and optimise personal computer hardware and operating systems, providing the necessary skills to take the CompTIA A+ Essentials and IT Technician Exams. CompTIA A+ validates the skills and knowledge of entry-level computer service technicians and provide entry to CISCO CCNA.  The CISCO CCNA course will provide a comprehensive introduction to deploying Cisco devices in an internetworked environment. Through extensive training students gain the fundamental knowledge and skills you need to install, configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers. 

Pre-requisites

This CompTIA A+ and CISCO CCNA Course entry requirements are: ECDL or equivalent standard.   All students are required to attend an interview with the course director.  English Language Proficiency Test (if required).  A high level of commitment is required on this course.

Course Aim

The Aim of the CompTIA A+ and CISCO CCNA Course is to:

Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to install, configure and optimise personal computer hardware and operating systems, providing you with the necessary skills to take the CompTIA A+ Essentials and IT Technician Exams.

Through extensive hands-on exercises, you gain the fundamental knowledge and skills you need to install, configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers. Successfully install and configure Cisco routers and switches to build internetworks.

The CompTIA A+ certification validates the latest skills needed by today’s computer support professionals. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification recognised by major hardware and software vendors, distributors and resellers. CompTIA A+ confirms a Technician's ability to perform tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. The exams also cover domains such as security, safety, environmental issues, communication and professionalism.

 CCNA® Discovery (New Syllabus)
Dorset College is an official CISCO Local Academy which has been certified by CISCO to offer courses of study leading to CCNA® certification. All courses are taught by CISCO Certified Instructors. The CISCO CCNA® Discovery curriculum provides foundational networking knowledge, practical experience, opportunities for career exploration, and soft-skills development to help students prepare for entry-level careers in IT and networking. The curriculum offers a hands-on approach to learning, and uses interactive tools and easy-to-follow labs to help students learn the general theory needed to build networks.

  • Networking for Home and Small Businesses
  • Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP
  • Introducing Routing and Switching in the Enterprise
  • Designing and Supporting Computer Networks 

Assessment

Students will sit the CompTIA A+ and CISCO CCNA on-line examinations at Dorset College in our Prometric testing centre.

Examination Fees are not included in Course fee and are payable as examinations are completed.

Awards

On successful completion of the CompTIA A+ examinations students will achieve the following:

  • CompTIA A+ Essentials Certificate – 220-601
  • CompTIA A+ IT Technician Certificate - 220-602

CISCO (640-802 CCNA®™)  Certified Computer Network Associate

CISCO CCNA Students are continually assessed throughout CCNA® Modules 1 - 4 during the course. Those who successfully complete all 4 modules are eligible to earn CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA®™) Certification. On Completion of CCNA® 4, the student has the requisite knowledge to sit the 640-802 CCNA® professional examination which awards the CCNA® qualification, validated by CISCO Systems Inc.

Academic Progression

The CompTIA A+ Certification is recognised internationally by major IT organisations and validates a technician's abilities to perform essential PC support tasks. The A+ Certification provides a good foundation for career advancement in the PC support field and is a pathway to achieving further CompTIA certifications, including Network+ and Linux+, MCSA/E.  Students who successfully complete the full-time course will have many professional and academic opportunities available to them.
